Get the Most from Every Conference

Jennifer Goddard's picture

Jennifer is just back from Guangzhou, having finalised the results of the World Memory Championship and she tells us it was a great competition, and very well run.  You can see all the results on the WMC website - www.worldmemorychampionships.com - and there were some truly remarkable achievements again this year.

Mike has headed back to Shanghai, after visiting New Zealand and Australia, and we are had several good planning days with him here on the Gold Coast.

Fleur is still in Turkey supporting our websites, which has kept her busy as we get set for 2012.

And Bill has been busy in the Gold_Coast office putting the last  touches on our 2012 plans.  This includes programs we're running in the USA in February and South Africa in May-June.

But the most focus is now on our upcoming Sydney Mind Mapping Certified Instructor program, as well as the new Speed Reading, Improved Memory, and Study Skills Certification programs we're running around Australia in 2012.

Also we told you in an earlier email that Jennifer's book Brain Training for Kids is soon to be re-published.  Well things are moving along nicely as her and Tony Buzan put on the finishing touches to the new edition, and we should see it out early 2012.

But for now, let's get started with the Brain Bites...

  HIGHLIGHTS

Top 8 things you can do to get the most from every workshop, lecture, conference or presentation.

We mentioned in a recent eLetter that we had been at the Mind & Its Potential Conference in Sydney, with Tony Buzan, and we wanted to share something we've been developing to ensure you get maximum results when you attend events like this, or indeed any sort of learning occasion.

Building on the work we do in the area of Learning How to Learn, we've come up with eight things you can do when you are going to attend a conference, training workshop, lecture etc.  They are:

  1. Clarify your purpose for attending
  2. Prepare to take part in every way
  3. Be present at the event
  4. Mind Map key issues, points and ideas
  5. Ask questions, and question assumptions
  6. Review your Mind Map notes to lock_in memory
  7. Plan to do something with what you've learned
  8. Take action - do something with what you've learned

You can read more on these simple eight steps in Jennifer's blog
    ,
and watch out in 2012 as we build on this approach.

 iMindMap Home & Student

Just a reminder that ThinkBuzan has announced a change in the structure for iMindMap Mind Mapping software.  They have now discontinued the 'Professional' and 'Elements' version, and consolidated the range into three packages that are more clearly differentiated.

  • iMindMap_Ultimate remains the premier edition, and is without doubt the best available Mind Mapping software.
  • iMindMap Home & Student is an upgrade of the old Elements edition, with many of the 'Professional' features added in. It is ideal software for study and non-business use.
  • MindMap Basic remains the free software that your trial version converts to when the trial expires.

And right now ThinkBuzan is offering Mindwerx and Buzan Centre eLetter readers a 20% Christmas Discount.

Just go to thinkbuzan.com to download the Free Trial and use the coupon code JINGLE when you buy to get the special price.

City Montessori School, Mind Mapping Competition

A few months ago we were approached by the City Montessori School in Lucknow, India who were planning their 6th International Innovation Day Contest, and wanted to include a Mind Mapping event.

They wanted some advice and help with organising it and guiding the students, and we were delighted to help.  We gave them our How to Mind Map_guide to start, and a range of student example Mind Maps, and also agreed to review and feedback on some of the Mind Maps submitted.

We're delighted to say the contest was a fabulous success, and Jennifer and Bill were able to closely look at 14 of the 80 Mind Maps submitted and give some feedback to the young Mind Mappers.

Topics for the Mind Maps included:-

  •   Innovative Ideas on Inspiring Global Understanding
  •   Innovative Ideas for Holistic Wellness
  •   Innovative Ideas for Divine_Education
  •   Innovative Ideas to Create a Better Earth

We are proud to be displaying these on the Mindwerx Resources page, and they are well worth a look
.

Congratulations to everyone that participated including teachers and students.

If you aren't yet Mind Mapping, get started now by doing our free 10-day How to Mind Map eCourse.

'Truly excellent! I’m so inspired and very happy.’

‘Best course I have ever been on in 25 years! If only all courses were as good and as valuable.’

‘Still as energetic and interesting on day 4 as on day 1.’

Mindwerx & Buzan Centre 2012 Open Programs

In conjunction with the Certified Instructor programs
we are also making our public face to face programs even more flexible and outcome focussed.  And we will continue to run in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Auckland and include:
    • Buzan's How to Mind Map (morning) and
    • Advanced Mind Mapping to Get Things Done (afternoon)
    • Speed Reading (morning) and
    • Advanced Speed Reading (afternoon)
    • Improve Your Memory (morning) and
    • Memory & Being Memorable (afternoon)
    • Buzan's Study Skills Program - 2 days
    • Productive Thinking with the HBDI - full day
    • Think, Before It's Too Late - full day

The Mind Mapping, Reading and Memory courses above have been designed so that you can attend an introductory workshop in the morning, and if you can, stay for the more advanced workshop in the afternoon.

We're doing this because we recognise that not everyone can get a full-day off and are happy to get started with an introductory course.  But naturally you get the best results if you can stay the full day, so we are making your decision to stay for the afternoon a 'no-brainer' by pricing it at only $99.

We hope this approach makes it easy for people to come along, and we look forward to working with you in 2012.

Absolutely Fantastic. I not only learnt the skills to use Mind Maps but I was given quite a number of tips to use in my training.
